Trauma Therapy and Forensic Studies

paper cut out of figures holding hands

This section will focus on my adventures as a clinician working in the field of trauma, specifically sexual trauma.

I began working with identified adult perpetrators of violence in 1989 and later victims and survivors of sexual violence.

As you may be aware, the field of trauma has really exploded in the past few years. I’ve wanted a place to discuss my current focus plus add information on the movers and shakers in this field, new research, and ongoing training opportunities as they become available.

Forensic Psychology is a field that has been around for a while. It is a single academic pursuit in some programs. I have stayed on the fringes by completing assessments and providing treatment to those in the criminal justice system but have not involved myself in other aspects such as child/custody evaluations or competency issues.

Book Reviews & Trainings:

I’ve been in the field of trauma, specifically sexual violence, since 1989. I feel like I have read everything, including references and further reading sections in the books I read, to go deeper and deeper into the field of trauma.

I didn’t come across Memory Reconsolidation (MR), or better yet, hadn’t heard the word, Memory Reconsolidation until this last year…

I was trained in Levels I & II EMDR but didn’t hear or understand the concept until now.

I am currently reading, “Unlocking the Emotional Brain” by Ecker, Ticic & Hilley and am having lightbulbs go off with almost every sentence! It’s amazing stuff!

I like how the authors respectfully explain how the likes of Badenoch, Cozolino, Fosha, Siegel, Panksepp, Rothschild, Schore, and van der Kolk all “missed” the concept or “barely mentioned it in their work” as of 2012 but don’t necessarily fault them.

I would like to see some of the author’s named above, re-write sections of their work with MR in mind to see what it might look like….
