Diaries & Family Tales from the County
If you’ve spent time in Maine or were born in Maine you may know what “The County” is.
There are some, born and raised in Maine, who have “heard” of The County but have never actually travelled there and have only seen pictures.
The County is where my narrative begins. It is where all my childhood stories come from and most likely the reason why I began a diary at age 9 that continues to this day.
It is a place of family lore, earliest losses, history, and the origin of this modern-day journal of sorts…
My family will be all through this section. However, my family was not and is not unique to that region so it will be more of a history page from the largest and Northern-most County in Maine.
As folks in the county like to say, “It ain’t Heaven, but you can see Heaven from here.

I learned recently that members/ancestors in my family were settlers in a couple of towns in Aroostook County.
It is rumored (no proof yet) that it was one of these settlers that was killed and the only one to die in the Aroostook County War, by what sounds to be, “friendly fire.”
His name was Nathan Johnston. More research is needed to confirm but it is written under Find A Grave under his name.
